Over 11 lakh applicants registered for CUET-UG 2022: UGC Chairman

The UGC Chairman, M Jagadesh Kumar, revealed a day after the National Testing Agency (NTA) closed registration for the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) UG 2022 that a total of 11,51,319 applicants had registered and 9,13,540 had paid the application fee for CUET-UG. 

“A record 1151319 candidates have registered and 913540 have paid application fee for CUET-UG. Many of them are from remote and rural areas. Students from every state and union territory have applied,” he tweeted. 

He also utilised the stage to emphasise that CUET will now give students a fair chance by removing the pressure of scoring exceedingly high on board examinations. “Without the burden of scoring very high marks in the range of 99 to 100% in board exams, students can now try for admission in best of the universities through CUET. For students who could not get high board scores, earlier it was not possible to get admission in top universities. But now it is within reach,”he tweeted.

Prof Kumar also discussed how central university engagement is assisting CUET UG's emphasis. "A significant number of universities participating is also quite promising." More colleges are anticipated to embrace CUET in the future years," he said. 

He also mentioned that, in the next academic year, CUET would be held twice a year.

"The potential of CUET being held twice a year will make it easier for students to plan and take the exam."

He said, "Best wishes to all CUET applicants."

This comes just a few days after he introduced CUET for postgraduate courses as well, for which registration is currently open.
