Government to set up First IIT outside India

On February 18th, 2022, the Government of India has announced that it will set up the first Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) at Dubai in UAE. This is the first time ever where India's premier institute, IIT will be set up outside India.

As per the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between the two countries. The Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal signed an India-UAE trade deal with the UAE delegation led by Minister of Economy, Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri & Minister of State for Foreign Trade Thani Bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi. As per the partnership agreement India will set up its first ever IIT outside the Indian soil in Dubai at UAE. This will be the first foreign IIT of India.

The IITs are the premier institutes of technology under the Union Ministry for Higher Education in India. There are about 23 IITs across India. The 24th IIT is the first of its kind where this premier institute of India is set up outside India in UAE. 

Both the ministers announced that this initiative will further strengthen the relationships between the two countries. The IITs are known for their quality education and getting an IIT in Dubai opens a plethora of opportunities for the students from across all the middle east countries.

The admission to IITs across India is conducted every year through the national level Joint Entrance Examinations; JEE Advanced and JEE Mains. The candidates who have qualified these exams are eligible to get admission to IITs in India. The National Testing Agency (NTA) in association with the IITs across the country will conduct this exam every year to select the best brains of the country.
