- All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has made Mathematics and Physics Subjects of Class XII as optional papers for entry into the BE/BTech courses for the academic year 2021-22.
- This act has brought about many controversies in regards to the quality of engineers produced in the country.
- As of now, both Mathematics and Physics are mandatory subjects for the eligibility to UG programmes of Engineering and Technology.
- AICTE has released the approval process handbook for 2021-22 with the changed eligibility criteria for UG Admissions.
- As per the handbook, students have to pass 10+2 with any of the three following subjects- Physics/ Mathematics/ Chemistry/ Computer Science/ Electronics/Information Technology/ Biology/ Informatics Practices/ Biotechnology/ Technical Vocational Subject/ Agriculture/ Engineering Graphics/ Business Studies/ Entrepreneurship.
- Candidates have to score 45% marks (40% marks- reserved category) in the above subjects taken together.Â
