In the major boost to develop engineering courses in Karnataka, the government will be upgrading 7 government Engineering Colleges into Karnataka Institutes of Technology (KIT) to provide quality and standards according to IITs.

Mr. Basavaraj Bommai the Chief Minister of Karnataka made this statement while inaugurating various development works of Bangalore University, including the renovated heritage buildings of the University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering (UVCE).

The Chief Minister stated that the government will upgrade seven government engineering colleges as KIT within five years to develop Karnataka as a progressive State and also one which can produce the highest skill and human resource to the nation.

The Higher Education Minister Mr C.N. Ashwath Narayan, stated that Karnataka is at the forefront State in higher education and the government is also planning to set up a taskforce, which will be headed by IIT scholars across the nation, for upgrading the seven government engineering colleges as KITs.
