MS Ophthalmology (Master of Surgery in Ophthalmology)
The MBBS students who are interested in eye related speciality, then they can join a Master of Surgery in Ophthalmology or MS Ophthalmology course after the completion of their MBBS degree.
MS Ophthalmology students are termed as Ophthalmologists. The Ophthalmologists are medically trained doctors who care for patients who have eye conditions. They manage those with acute long-term eye diseases and treat patients of all ages. The ophthalmologists diagnose, treat and prevent disorders of the eyes and visual system.
Ophthalmology is a mixed medical and surgical speciality. There are many ophthalmological problems encountered in the world especially in aged populations.
Common Ophthalmological conditions are:

EligibilityThe candidate should be a graduate in Medicine (M.B.B.S)from any university recognised by the Medical Council of India. No candidate shall be admitted to any post graduate degree / diploma course unless the candidate has obtained and produced the eligibility certificate issued by the University.

KEA:
Government Colleges(G)- INR. 38,900 to INR. 2,63,900 per nnum
Government Private Seats(G) - INR. 1,02,786 to INR. 7,13,780 per annum
GMP/OPN (P) in Private Colleges - INR. 1,58,000 to INR. 40,00,000 per annum
NRI/Others (Q) - INR. 1,02,785 to INR. 90,15,500 per annum

(The fees structure mentioned above are as per 2020 medical counselling).

Admission Process:

Candidates seeking admission to MD should mandatorily qualify NEET-PG Exam. The NEET qualified students are required to undergo two types of counselling. 

1.The students seeking admission to medical colleges affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) should undergo the counselling conducted by the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA).

2.The students seeking admission to deemed universities should undergo counselling conducted by Medical Counselling Committee (MCC).

Cornea and Anterior Specialists: The Cornea and Anterior specialists involved in diagnosis and treatment of anterior parts of the eye like cornea, iris etc. They basically deal with the surgery and treatment of the anterior parts of the eye. They conduct surgeries like cornea transplantation and many other surgeries related to the anterior eye parts.

Earning Potential: They can easily earn around 12 lakhs to 15 lakhs per annum

Retina Specialists: The Retina Specialists specialise in performing surgery in the posterior part of the eye that is retina. The retina deteriorates according to age, sometimes the diabetes patients may suffer from retina problems. The Retina Specialists are responsible to treat the retinal disorders in such patients. They are also responsible to provide radiotherapy treatments for the patients with retinal disorders. 

Earning Potential: They can easily earn around 15 lakhs to 18 lakhs per annum

Ophthalmic and Vision Science Specialists:  Ophthalmic and Vision specialists are responsible to study the vision disorders and diseases caused in eyes. They are responsible for assessing and monitoring various visual functions and structure changes. They provide essential diagnostic, prognostic information related to various eye diseases like glaucoma, cataract, diabetic retinopathy.
Earning Potential: They can easily earn around 10 lakhs to 12 lakhs per annum

Ophthalmic Physicians: Ophthalmic Physicians or Medical Ophthalmologists are the doctors who prevent, diagnose and treat medical eye conditions that are related to systemic disease like diabetes. They are trained doctors in both general (internal) medicine and ophthalmology. They provide treatments for various problems like hypertension, atherosclerosis, inflammation, infection and malignancy etc.

Earning Potential: They can easily earn around 10 lakhs to 12 lakhs per annum
