“Did you hear? AI is actually going to steal everyone’s jobs!!!”
You may have probably overheard someone say this - maybe at lunch, or while scrolling Instagram, or perhaps it was a worried parent. With all the news going around about AI tools, ChatGPT, and self-driving vehicles, it may feel like the future is here, and it's a bit fast.
But wait - is AI an actual threat, or are we depicting it to be? Or is it the largest opportunity our generation has ever seen? So, if you're a student who is feeling indecisive about choosing AI courses after 12th, whether to pursue BCA, BTech or something entirely different - this blog is for you!
We're not going to bombard you with technical jargon. We're going to be straight up and discuss:
- What is the AI technology?
- Whether it's going to take jobs or improve jobs
- What type of careers are booming in the AI age
- What are the different ways you can get involved
Let's move on.
AI: No Longer Just Sci-Fi
In the past, when we thought about “AI,” flying cars, robot maids, or movies in a sci-fi theme came to mind. It all felt abstract and more in the future. Well, that “future” is today. AI is quietly running the world around us. From self-driving cars that can instantaneously react in a matter of split seconds in traffic, to automobile companies’ streaming platforms like Netflix understanding what we want to watch next, AI is everywhere.
Have you recently asked ChatGPT to assist you in a project or assignment? Or perhaps, you were pleasantly surprised in your phone book when seeing your commitments, responding to emails, perhaps even transcribing a speech? Whatever it might have been, it was AI.
We are in a time now where machines are not only responding to our commands, but learning from them, indeed adapting to commands as well as processing (almost) in ways unimaginable.
And the wildest part? We’re barely scratching the surface with just adopting these processes.
So… Is AI Replacing Jobs?
To be honest, this is a big question on everyone’s mind.
What’s the answer? Well, it can be yes, and no.
For sure, AI is taking over jobs, namely jobs that are repetitive, like data entry or simple customer service, as machines can now do these jobs faster, and more better, and accurately too. This may sound a little scary, and that's valid if you're thinking that way.
But the good news is, AI is also creating a lot of new jobs and believe it or not, they are actually exciting! Think about it:
