NEET cut off marks, trend

The minimum cut off mark applicable is the same for medical seats in India & abroad alike.

As the NEET-UG 2019 is round the corner the major thought that hangs around is about this year's percentiles and cut offs. The medical aspirants across India are in the heat of preparation as NEET is compulsory for medical admission in India & abroad.

TheUndergraduate National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG) conducted by NTA (National Testing Agency) is a national level entrance test for all medical seats in India. From 2019 onwards NEET is compulsory for abroad medical admissions as well.

The NEET-2019 exam date is on May 5 and the admit cards are about to be released. NEET will be conducted in a single shift from 3 pm to 6 pm. The NTA will publish the NEET 2019 cut off along with NEET result by June 5.

The official qualifying cut off percentile for NEET 2019 is:

  1. 50 percentile for general candidates.
  2. 40 percentile for SC/ST/OBC candidates.
  3. 45 & 40 percentile each for PwD unreserved & reserved categories respectively.

The percentile of a candidate is the number of people the candidate is ahead of, in the list of all who appeared in the test. Percentile is calculated based on the performance of the candidate in a test as compared with others. For example if your rank is one in a group of 100 students your percentile is 99 because you are ahead of 99% of students who appeared in the test along with you.

Now the question is how much is the actual marks that you need to score to qualify. Your percentile depends not only on the score that you get in the exam but also on the total number of test takers.

In 2018 around 12, 69,922 candidates appeared for the exam and 7, 14,562 candidates qualified, and the 50 percentile cut off mark was 119, 45 percentile cut off was about 107 and 40 percentile cut off mark was 96.

The candidates need to check out the actual cut of marks of the particular colleges as different colleges have different cut offs, which are equal to or above the minimum qualifying cut off prescribed by the NTA.
