Huge Increase in the Number of NEET UG Applicants

14.5% Increase in the Number of Aspirants in NEET UG 2019 compared to 2018.Bangalore comes 3rd in the choice of exam centre after Delhi and Patna. Female applicants exceed male applicants

The number of NEET aspirants in 2019 increased by around 2 lakhs to a record 15.19 lakhs (an increase of around 14.5% from last year). This year's registrations have special relevance in the context of last year;s Medical Council of India (MCI) notification that 2019 onward NEET is compulsory for all candidates who want to pursue medical courses abroad. Recently the MCI had extended the validity of the NEET score to '3 years', from the date of result publishing, for candidates seeking foreign admission. The validity is one year for Indian admissions.

Earlier a public notice issued by NTA had removed the upper age limit of NEET Medical exam and candidates who are above 25 years of age were allowed to appear in NEET UG 2019. A final decision on the upper age limit of upcoming NEET exams is under review by the Supreme Court. About 0.3% of applicants in 2018 were above 25 years of age.

This year Bangalore came third in the choice of exam centre with 42,375 applicants, with Delhi (56,683) and Patna (52,120) having first and second positions respectively. NEET UG 2019 was held on May 5, 2019 and the results are expected by June 5.

Among the states, Maharashtra topped the number of registrations with 2.2 lakhs followed by UP and Tamil Nadu with 1.6 and 1.4 lakhs respectively.
